Danish Design Brands Raise the Bar for Sustainability

The interior design world has experienced a shift. It has become more mindful of our planet, a product’s life cycle, and the connection between the two. This environmental concern drives greater supply chain transparency, more responsible sourcing and the use of upcycled and natural materials for a more circular economy. We are proud to see that two Danish brands we work with closely, Mogens Hansen and Kvadrat , are individually and collectively doing their bit to promote sustainability and sustainable furniture.

The creative minds at long-standing Danish brand Mogens Hansen are embracing sustainability and keeping it local by specialising in 100% Danish-produced furniture. With an emphasis on conscious production, Mogens Hansen constructs their classic MH 321 from certified wood, water-based glue, recycled foam, certified foam and Danish-made cushions, making it a sustainable and evergreen centrepiece of the collection.

Meanwhile, world-renowned textile manufacturer Kvadrat has, since its inception in 1968 in Ebletoft Denmark, produced fabrics with architects and designers in mind. Kvadrat has become synonymous not only with high design but also with showing that responsible living, working and production is not atypical. Being 100% fuelled by renewable energy, the brand’s headquarters leads by example. Yet Kvadrat’s most influential sustainable policy is their use and disposal of fabrics.

Kvadrat became even greener in 2017 with the launch of the sustainable recycling company, Really which upcycles waste wool and cotton. Furthermore, about 90 per cent of all Kvadrat textiles are also Greenguard certified, and the company only uses dyes that fulfil EU Ecolabel requirements.

In 2020, the Mogens Hansen MH 321 sofa campaign brings together the sustainable approach of these two remarkable brands. For a limited time, the MH 321 sofa is available in Kvadrat Rewool fabric – designed in Denmark by Margarethe Odgaard and made from 45% recycled wool – at very affordable prices. And not only is Rewool sustainable, its stunning palette teamed with the timeless lines and multiple leg options of the Mogens Hansen MH 321 makes it easy to create a sofa that will delight your family for many years to come.
