VLA62 Radio House Mirror | Carl Hansen & Søn

Following the revival of his reimagined Vega Chair and Foyer Series, the continuation of a collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects brings an elegant, modernist mirror to light for a wider audience.

The VLA62 Radio House Mirror was designed in 1945 for the Royal Retiring Room in the Radio House, Copenhagen. The room served as the royal chambers to the royal box, overlooking the concert hall in the building, that is now the Royal Danish Academy of Music. An all-encompassing work of art, every piece of furniture in this room was designed specifically by Lauritzen, as it was for the entire building as the architect and designer. He approached architecture and furniture design as a whole – creating every fixture in his functionalist style, from door handles and bannisters to lamps and furniture.

Crafted from FSC™-certified solid oak for a more contemporary, Nordic aesthetic, this full-length mirror is assembled from eight carved pieces that are matched to ensure the distinctive grain is continuous. Sanded by hand for a smooth, tactile finish, a deep, concave frame features organic corners that almost embrace the mirror. A substantial design with a sculptural expression, the Radio House Mirror adds warmth and character to the hallway or bedroom.
